On March 7, 2024, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine published a news explanation detailing which medical specialists are entitled to provide cosmetology services. The list includes:

• Dermatological Surgeon (or Physician-Dermatologist-Surgeon);

• Medical Nurse/Brother for cosmetic procedures;

• Pharmacist-Cosmetologist.

The Dermatological Surgeon is a specialist with higher medical education who has completed an internship in “Dermatovenereology” and obtained a specialization in “Surgical Dermatology.” This physician can provide medical assistance not only through therapeutic treatment methods but also through surgical interventions. Consequently, in cosmetology, they may use procedures involving the injection of fillers or botulinum toxin, perform microneedling therapy, contour plastic surgery, and other procedures. The most important thing is to perform these procedures using certified products to protect themselves and their patients from undesirable consequences.

Medical Nurses/Brothers for cosmetic procedures have partial or basic higher medical education in “Nursing,” “Medical Practice” (or “General Medicine”), or “Midwifery” and specialization in their work profile. Since these specialists are junior medical personnel, they can perform their work only under the supervision of a physician. For example: providing consultations on the sensible use of cosmetic products, performing certain cosmetic procedures, massages, etc.

The Pharmacist-Cosmetologist is a specialist with a higher education who, importantly, studied in the specialty “Technology of Perfumery and Cosmetic Products.” They can advise patients on the use of various cosmetic products, as well as perform non-invasive cosmetology procedures.
